Yesterday (Oct 25), the “Yao Kawachi Ondo Festival” was
held at Yao Elementary School in Osaka.

Even though the weather looked shaky,
my daughter and I decided to go have some fun!
In this quick report,
I’ll share my personal experience—including why
I only bought yakisoba and ramune (due to budget!)
—and give you a sneak peek at the event details for
tomorrow, Sunday, October 26th!
My Personal Experience: Joining the Kawachi Ondo Dance Circle!
While I’m pretty good at dancing at Oktoberfest,
I’m a total novice when it comes to Kawachi Ondo.
All I’ve ever done is listen to the music!
However, I decided to jump into the circle!
My daughter just walked along while
I did my best robot-like, awkward moves.
My feet were busy, and if I tried to add arm movements,
I was totally lost!
But honestly?
It was so much fun!
Even though we had to retreat because of the rain at the end,
the atmosphere was incredible.
It’s All About Yakisoba and Ramune!
Yes, I really only bought yakisoba (Japanese fried noodles) and
ramune (a soda)!
The large serving of yakisoba from “Mama-ya” with its sweet seasoning
completely satisfied both my stomach and my taste buds.
It felt like the ultimate treat!
You just have to get yakisoba at a festival stall, right? It truly is the best feast!

Dancing the Yao Kawachi Ondo and Ohta Jaina Ondo
The Kawachi Ondo and the Oota Jaina Ondo are the main dances.
Even if you don’t know the moves and feel awkward,
the key is to have fun!
The Oota Jaina Ondo has a slight jumping movement that
I personally found easier to follow.
【Important】The Festival Continues Today, October 26th!

Conclusion: Feeling the Tradition of Yao
It was a great day to experience the traditional **Kawachi Ondo** firsthand
—a truly rhythmic and soulful Japanese beat.
If the festival is held again next year, I hope to dance under a clear, sunny sky!
