備蓄米のレポ/Trying Out Emergency Storage Rice –

I recently ran out of rice faster than expected before payday,


so I finally decided to try some emergency storage rice.

I hope this helps those who are unsure about buying it and are still on the fence.

First Impressions: Washing and Smell

From the moment I washed the rice, I could tell it felt different.

It had a rough, grainy texture—almost like washing azuki beans.

I actually wanted to record a longer video,


but had to keep it short to avoid making my blog too heavy.

As for the smell, it didn’t have the usual sweet aroma of fresh rice.


Instead, it had a stronger, hard-to-describe scent—


but it wasn’t unpleasant.

How I Cooked It

In our household, we always add a bit of oil


and a piece of ice when cooking rice,


so I followed the same routine this time as well.

When the rice was done cooking,


the smell wasn’t bad at all,


so I gave it a try.

I made simple salted rice balls and shared them with my 4-year-old.

Taste Test: My Child vs. Me

My child happily said, “It tastes the same as usual!”


But as for me…

It lacked the natural sweetness and shine that I’m used to.


It just felt like I was eating… plain rice.

If someone asked me, “Was it bad?”


I’d say, “Not bad—but it just didn’t have much flavor.”

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth Buying?

In the end, I think it’s totally edible.


For people who aren’t picky about their rice,


this 2,000 yen pack might actually be a good deal.

Now…


if someone offered me a 7,000 yen pack of high-quality rice,



of course I’d happily accept it!
