Introduction
Have you ever heard of Shiruko Sando ?
It’s a beloved local snack from Aichi Prefecture, Japan,
often called a soul food by locals.
Hi there!
This is sky dolphin-M-
Shiruko Sando is one of those snacks that
you start eating casually…
and before you realize it, the whole pack is gone. (lol)
I got curious about where it came from,
so I did a little research—and found a really interesting story.
I’d like to borrow a bit from an article by Toyo Keizai Online.
According to their interview with the company’s PR representative,
the birth of Shiruko Sando started with a simple but brilliant idea:
“The inspiration came one day when the first president was eating ōban-yaki (a Japanese sweet pancake filled with red bean paste).
He thought, ‘Instead of adding the filling later, what if we sandwich the red bean paste from the start and bake it that way?’
That idea became the beginning of Shiruko Sando.”

Getting an idea from ōban-yaki—
what an amazing sense of creativity!
Thinking about baking it with the filling already inside
makes me realize why Shiruko Sando has that
crispy, unique texture.
You never know what small moment will turn into a big hit, right?

Tasting Time!
Shiruko Sando × Coffee with Extra Milk = The Best Combo
So, I finally bought some Shiruko Sando.
I wondered what to drink with it—
hojicha tea? plain milk?
After some thought, I went with
coffee with plenty of milk.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect.
The slight saltiness of the biscuit
and the gentle sweetness of the red bean filling
are perfectly balanced.
And when you bite into it—crunch, crunch—
that sound alone is fun! ( *´艸`)

Crunch with the front teeth,
crunch with the back teeth,
then wash it down with coffee milk…
This loop is dangerous. ヾ(≧▽≦)ノ
I told myself, “Just a few,”
but before I knew it, the whole pack was gone.
Shocking Discovery About Shiruko Sando !!
Guess what?
There’s actually a premium version called
“Fresh (Nama) Shiruko Sando”!
Yes—fresh.
What’s the Difference from Regular Shiruko Sando?
Honestly… I’m currently being chased by bills (lol),
so I haven’t been able to order it yet.
But I was too curious, so I researched it anyway.
Here’s what makes Nama Shiruko Sando special:
- Texture change: from crunchy to soft
The biscuit becomes moist and tender, almost like it’s half-baked. - Richer filling: red bean cream
The traditional red bean paste is blended with a smooth cream. - Crafted by hand
Surprisingly, each piece is carefully handmade by artisans.
If regular Shiruko Sando is an
everyday, comforting snack,
then Nama Shiruko Sando feels like
a special treat just for yourself
Where Can You Buy It?
The Rarity Is Part of the Charm
Nama Shiruko Sando isn’t sold everywhere.
You can mainly find it at

Honestly… I really want to try it.
Once I escape from my financial responsibilities (someday ),
I’m definitely buying it.
Soft, moist Nama Shiruko Sando
with creamy coffee milk…
That combination has to be amazing.
